| Exactly
What Is It? |
 | A small, low power radio station which is legal to operate without
a license from the Federal Communications Commission. |
 | The transmitter itself is in a weatherproof box and will mount
on a pole on your roof, much like an outside TV antenna. The audio and power wires go back
into your building where you have located your "studio". The studio consists of
an audio mixer, automation computer and an AM audio processor, which makes the
radio signal loud without distortion. |
 | The coverage area? Roughly 1/2 to 1 mile around the
installation and on a car radio, if properly installed, the signal may be heard up to two
miles away. |
 | Many of these stations add more than one transmitter to
increase the coverage area. There are no limitations, you may operate as many
transmitters as you wish. |
 | Your Church could create an entire ministry around one of
these installations or just create an easy way in a larger church to tell folks where to
park. |
|
| Can We
Broadcast Services? |
 | Please do! Let your neighbors know that
they can tune in your service from home or car radio. Congregations sometime forget the
folks living next door or down a block or so. Radio is also great to let prospective
guests know more about the church before they set foot on church grounds. Also it can be a
parking aid, making the first time guest visit much smother. Tell them where to take their
kids depending on age, service times, how to get connected! We suggest after you launch
your station, go on a door to door hand-out campaign to let people know your "on the
air". |
|
| Can We
Broadcast Music Legally? |
 | Yes, BMI offers a blanket Part 15 music license for
$200.00 per year. You may download a copy of both the station profile and the
license form here. |

BMI
Form. |
|
| Can We Sell
Commercials? |
 | There are no rules against selling air time or recognizing
people or businesses that donate to keep it on the air. |
|
| Are There
Any Drawbacks? |
 | Overhead power lines cause electrical interferrence with these
"micro-powered transmitters. We love to see them installed in areas that have
underground power. |
 | The daytime signal will go farther than the nightime signal.
At night, depending upon the frequency chosen, you may receive interference from a distant
broadcast station. THE SOLUTION: Live With It or Change Frequencies.
Many Part 15 Stations consider the AM signal to be "Daytime reception" and also
stream audio on the internet for people to hear at home. Internet streaming of music may
require more costly music licenses and a digital domain license. |
 | The FCC prefers that you not identify your station will
"Call Letters". Instead you may choose a "Nickname" for your station,
ie; "FaithRadio-AM1600" or "Christian Hit Radio". |
|
| What Are
The Costs To Build One? |
 | If you have some technical people in your fellowship, then we
can simply send you the equipment with instructions on how to install it. If not, then we
need to send a technician to your town who will spend a couple of days helping you set up
your station and training your people how to operate the automation system. |
 | The final cost is also determined by the equipment package you
select. Obviously the more you spend, the more transmitters or other equipment you
could get. |
|
